Moscow, Sadovaya-Spasskaya street, building 21/1.

Cultural heritage site of regional significance “Administrative and residential building, 1949-1953, architects A.N. Dushkin, B.S. Mezentsev”

Description:

Lermontovskaya Square (Red Gate Square) – the intersection of the Garden Ring highway with three streets in front of the high-rise administrative building was expanded by demolishing the old buildings.

The placement of high-rise buildings took into account the course of the Moscow River and the location of the intersections of the main radial directions with ring roads.

The main facade of the administrative building, oriented towards the Garden Ring, consists of the main high-rise part and two wings with flanking buildings. According to the authors of the project, “The solution to the plan, close in proportions to a square, is the most expressive and gives unity to the composition, which works actively in space, emphasizing the significance of the newly erected structure.”

The architectural solution is based on vertical blades, reflecting the structural design of the central volume. Additional vertical divisions enhance the dynamics of the composition. The main tier of the central volume contains a frieze with the coat of arms of the USSR.

Completed works:

– A range of works was carried out to restore rusticated facade surfaces, including crack injection, replenishment of lost concrete block surfaces (chips, small cracks, cavities and caverns), restoration and recreation of the plaster layer of courtyard facades, followed by painting of the prepared surfaces.

– A large volume of work has been completed on the restoration and reconstruction of concrete balconies with railings made of balusters, profiled and complex-profile cornices, belts and carved decor, and roof balustrades. These elements have suffered the most during the 70-year period of operation.

– The window joinery was recreated with brass fittings based on surviving samples.

– The load-bearing structures, doors and upper beams of the gates in the driveway arches were restored, and the flagpoles were recreated.

– Using the method of highly artistic casting, 4-meter pendant lamps in the driveway arches and facade lamps were recreated in their original appearance from the 1950s.
