Identified cultural heritage site “Mass Grave”

Description:
The first mentions of the settlement of Tibeki located on the territory of the rural settlement can be found on the land survey map of 1778.
At the end of 1941 and in January 1942, fierce battles were fought here. Mass graves are evidence of this. 602 Soviet soldiers are buried in the Podpolevo mass grave, about 281 in Tibeki. During their retreat, the Nazis burned these villages. Old people, women and children were driven into one of the houses of Podpolevo, the doors were closed and they were going to burn it. Our soldiers saved people from this terrible tragedy. The occupiers were brutal and did not spare even children.
The mass grave appeared in 1942, when local residents buried here
Soviet soldiers who died for the liberation of the village of Tibeki. In 1957, the grave was reconstructed. The hill was renewed and covered with turf, which acquired a size of 2m x 2m, a monument was erected. A concrete plastered pedestal was erected on a concrete plastered foundation, on which a sculptural group was erected, depicting a warrior with a naked and mournfully bowed head, in a cloak and a female soldier. The woman holds a banner with her right hand, the soldier a wreath. There is a memorial inscription on the pedestal: “Eternal memory to the heroes who died in the battles for the Motherland in 1941-1945.” The territory of the grave is surrounded by a metal fence. In total, the grave contains the ashes of approximately 300 soldiers. The grave appeared in the center of the village, when local residents buried Soviet soldiers here who died in the battle for the liberation of the village of Tibeki. In 1957, the grave was reconstructed and a monument was erected. A memorial plaque with the inscription: “Eternal memory to the heroes who died in battles for the Motherland. 1941 – 1945” is mounted on the pedestal.
