Kaluga, Moskovskaya St., 46г. Калуга, ул. Московская д.46
A cultural heritage site of regional significance, “Residential building”, early 19th century
Description:
The original volume of the building was built shortly before 1832, since its estimated value that year was 7,000 rubles.
Its owner and, most likely, the customer of the construction was Kaluga merchant Fyodor Semenovich Dekhterev. At that time, the building was listed at the address: 1st part, 3rd block, No. 242. According to the regular plan of Kaluga in 1778, this was the 42nd block.
The Dekhterev (Degterev) family of Old Believer merchants was extremely significant not only in the public life of Kaluga, but also in the life of other Russian cities of that time. For example, Mikhail Parfentievich Degterev (26.08.1831 – 21.12.1898) is a hereditary honorary citizen of Kyiv, philanthropist, patron of the arts, Russian 1st guild merchant-Old Believer, who carried out significant civil construction in Kyiv. He is a descendant of the burgomaster of the city of Kaluga Ivan Grigorievich Menshoy Gubkin (21.05.1749 – 1798). Degterev’s ancestors are known in Kaluga for their trade and social activities and charity.
In the 1870s, the estate was owned by the merchant Ryabchikov Nikolai Ivanovich. It is possible that an extension to the northern facade was built under him. Since 1838, the address has changed: 1st part, 6th quarter, No. 19.
In the 1890s, the property changed owners several times. Thus, half of the house was sold at auction to the 2nd guild merchant Vasily Stepanovich Rozanov in 1885, and he bought the other half from the townswoman Varvara Naumovna Popova in 1890. Then the house remained in the ownership of V.S. Rozanov for a quarter of a century, and in the pre-revolutionary years it was acquired by Anfim Alekseevich Polovinkin.
In the early 1920s, the building was municipalized and transferred to the jurisdiction of the city housing department.
