Kaluga, Grigorov lane, 12

The identified cultural heritage site “Residential building 1st quarter of the 19th century”

Description:
The residential building in question is an example of manor development in the old part of Kaluga. The building, despite its modest size and laconic design, is an integral part of the urban fabric of old Kaluga and participates in the formation of the urban development of Grigorov Lane. Grigorov Lane adjoins one of the oldest streets in Kaluga – Voskresenskaya Street. Thus, “Residential building, 1st quarter of the 19th century” is, as stated above, part of the urban fabric of the oldest section of the historical part of Kaluga.
The building was created in the style of simplified, calm classicism of the first half of the 19th century. This style is extremely characteristic of the residential development of old Kaluga. With certain reservations, it can be argued that such an example of classicism is style-forming for the urban fabric of old Kaluga.
Despite the fact that this building is not a striking architectural object, it conveys the spirit of old Kaluga well. The atmosphere of any city, especially an old one like Kaluga, is created not only from significant dominants, but also from the so-called urban fabric. The fabric of the city is ordinary civil buildings, which usually form the main development of the city by block. The buildings that make up the fabric of the city, as already mentioned above, are not necessarily architectural masterpieces, but they are the urban body of any city.
