Moscow, Central Administrative District, Tverskaya St., 6, building 6
Object of cultural heritage of federal significance “Savvinskoye Compound, 1907, architect I.S. Kuznetsov”
Description:
House 6, building 6 on Tverskaya Street, looks like a fairy-tale tower and has an amazing history.
The courtyard was built on the property of the Savvo-Storozhevsky Monastery as an office and hotel building. Until 1937, it faced directly onto Tverskaya Street, being the largest building between Okhotny Ryad and Tverskaya Square.
The house of I.S. Kuznetsov is an example of the neo-Russian style. The main architectural motif of the main facade of the house is a giant niche-arch two stories high. It frames the main entrance. The niche-arch also contains a side passage to the inner courtyard. The decor and composition of these arches go back to the architecture of Rostov the Great.
